Early Learners
Stars -
2 to 2 ½ yrs old
The “Stars” of Sundance are our youngest students, just beginning their nursery and preschool education. Children who are 2 to 2 ½ years old learn to truly enjoy their first experience at school, where our loving Sundance teachers nurture their minds and imaginations through activities designed to capture their interest, foster independence and enhance communication skills and vocabulary.
“Star” teachers are very experienced with children in this age group. The low teacher-student ratio of 1:3 ensures lots of individual attention. Our “Stars” enjoy the full complement of Sundance activities including art, readiness, music, dance, dramatics and more.
Our teachers partner with parents, providing support and helpful tips for Star children who are not yet toilet trained.
Moon Room -

Children 2 ½ to 3 years old enjoy many challenging activities designed to help them develop social skills, language and a feeling of self-confidence in the loving, nurturing atmosphere of the Moon Room.
Moon Room children learn to share and take turns. “Hands-on” materials encourage the development of small and large motor skills and age appropriate readiness skills.
The low teacher-student ratio of 1:4 ensures that each child will receive individual care and attention in this nursery and preschool environment. There are lots of opportunities for creative expression such as art, music, singing, dramatics and more!
Our teachers partner with parents, providing support and helpful tips for Moon Room children who are not yet toilet trained.
Preschool - Pre-Kindergarten
Tree Room -
3 to 4 yrs old
Children 3 to 4 years old make up our happy Tree Room. The Tree Room offers a comprehensive Pre-Kindergarten program for those children who will attend Kindergarten the following school year. Social awareness is an important development for children this age. During play, children learn to respect and be considerate of others, to share, to listen and follow directions, and to help clean up after play time is over.
The teacher-student ratio in the Tree Room is 1:5. In the Tree Room, children have abundant opportunities to increase their language and communication skills through music, story time, and in small groups with their teachers who are specially trained to lead readiness activities for this age group.
Sun Room -
Pre-Kindergarten to Kindergarten
Our Sun Room 4 and 5 year olds are truly ready to be challenged in this Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten program. Every effort is made to fully understand the abilities of each child.
Developmentally appropriate activities that facilitate skills in reading and writing readiness, math and problem solving are provided. Sun Room children are becoming increasingly more adept at cooperative play. The Sun Room offers wonderful opportunities for meaningful social experiences. Friendships deepen and become more significant.
The Sun Room teacher-student ratio is approximately 1:6. Activities in music, movement, dance, dramatics and art are also an integral part of the Sun Room program.
Elementary
Primary -
Kindergarten to 1st grade
The Primary is a dynamic, progressive and innovative Kindergarten and first grade program for 5, 6 and 7 year old children who are ready for a challenging full-day learning experience. Students are divided into four groups based on their developmental and social compatibility. Smaller sub-groups are formed for the purpose of providing highly individualized instruction.
The low teacher-student ratio of 1:6 allows the teachers to really get to know the interests and needs of each student. Ample time is set aside for creative classes in computers, art, dramatics, music, movement and physical education. Twice a year, all four groups join together to create full-length dramatic productions.
Upper School -
2nd to 5th grade
Constellations (2nd grade), Milkyways (3rd grade), & Galaxies (4th -5th grade)
In the Upper School, students experience a variety of instructional strategies: direct instruction, cooperative learning, discovery learning, computer-based research, peer tutoring and authentic activities. A differential approach to these strategies with regard to ability, learning style and background knowledge ensures that every student may flourish.
The Upper School is aligned with state benchmarks. Students are instructed in Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, Science, Foreign Language (Spanish, Chinese), Music, Violin and Computers. A cross-curricular approach to these subjects guarantees that students learning is continually reinforced and expanded.
Musical performances and theater productions are a hallmark of the Sundance experience and continue in the Upper School with the additional component of a work by Shakespeare.
